Evaluations (Tryouts) (Muskoka Rock Minor Hockey)

PrintEvaluations (Tryouts)
Player evaluations play an important role in building balanced teams and setting the stage for a strong season. While the process can be competitive, our focus remains on creating a supportive and respectful hockey experience where players have the opportunity to grow and succeed.

Evaluations (Tryouts)

Evaluations (tryouts) will take place between the dates listed below for each division as per the OHF/OMHA Required dates. There will be 3 evaluations for each team.

Any player wishing to make a team must attend at least one Evaluation. Players may attend evaluations at other associations at the same time. Players can be signed to a team after one evaluation at the discretion of the Coach, and if signed, must immediately stop attending evaluations at other associations.

Registration is required for evaluations and will be available as of April 1, 2026. The cost to attend Muskoka Rock is $60. For more information about our evaluation process, click here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child try out for teams at any local minor hockey association?
As of the 2025/26 season, Ontario Hockey Federation—including OMHA—minor hockey players in the U10 age group and above have the opportunity to participate with the association of their choice regardless of category (AAA, AA, A, BB, B etc.).

Does my child require a 'Permission to Skate' form?
No.

Does my child need to register in advance for evaluations?
Yes. All players must register in order to attend and be offered a spot on a team. Registration opens on April 1.

What happens at an evaluation?
Please plan to arrive early so you have time to complete check-in. The Head Coach or a representative will check in your child.

What is the 'Evaluation and Release Process'?
For Spring Rep evaluations, players must attend a minimum of one (1) evaluation for the team they are trying out for. There will be 3 evaluation skates scheduled over the course of one week and players may attend tryouts in any other centre of their choosing within that timeframe.

If a Head Coach offers a player a position on the team and the player signs (accepts the offer), that player must immediately stop attending other evaluations in alternative centres. That player's participation in remaining evaluation skates with their designated centre is at the discretion of the Head Coach (some coaches may request signed players to no longer attend to allow an easier evaluation of the remaining players). Teams will be formed at the end of the evaluations
