Muskoka Rock 24-Hour Policy

Purpose

To promote respectful communication, emotional cooling-off, and constructive resolution of concerns in the best interests of players and the association. The policy aligned with OMHA principles and Respect In Sport guidlines.

Policy

Parents, guardians, and players must wait a minimum of 24 hours after a game, practice, or team event before raising concerns related to:
  • Coaching decisions (e.g., ice time, line combinations, positioning)
  • Playing time or player usage
  • Game outcomes or officiating
  • Team strategy or performance
  • Emotional or heated incidents
This waiting period allows time for emotions to settle and helps ensure discussions are calm, respectful, and productive.

Communication Expectations

After the 24-hour period:
  • Concerns should be raised respectfully and privately
  • Initial contact should follow the association’s communication pathway (e.g., Coach → Manager → Director → Board)
  • Conversations must remain focused on solutions, not blame or criticism

Prohibited Conduct

The following is not permitted at any time:
  • Confronting coaches, officials, or volunteers during or immediately after games/practices
  • Aggressive, abusive, or public criticism (in person or online)
  • Contacting players about concerns involving team decisions

Exceptions

This policy does not apply to urgent matters involving:
  • Player safety
  • Harassment or abuse
  • Serious conduct violations
These concerns should be reported immediately through official association channels.

Enforcement

Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to:
  • Written warnings
  • Suspension of spectator or participation privileges
  • Removal from Association activities
  • Additional sanctions under OMHA governance frameworks
