Muskoka Rock Atoms Have Successful Few Weeks
Submitted By Jen Stephen on Thu 11 06, 14
SHALLOW LAKE - The Muskoka Rock Atom Team ROCKED IT in their first away tournament of the season! The Muskoka Rock atoms finished off October placing 3rd out of 10 teams in Shallow Lake, near Owen Sound. The team had an opportunity to bond with each other as did all of the parents, proving that this amalgamation is a huge success. The following article appeared in Muskoka newspapers - submitted by Jack Tynan.

The Muskoka Rock opened against the TCDMHA, and fought a tight match to beat the Chatworth team 4-3. Winger Aidan Martin opened the scoring, assisted by Tyler Stephen in the first. TCDMHA responded to make it 1-1 after one, but the Muskoka Rock added another in the second, by centre Dylan Hendrick, assisted by Martin. In the third, both teams exchanged goals, with defenseman Tanner Clifford adding one from Martin and Hendrick, while TCDMHA responded with two. With the score 3-3 and the clock ticking down in the third, Hendrick was the hero, scoring with one second left from Clifford and Stephen, for the 4-3 win.The Rock then faced Minto, and won another tight-fought match. Minto scored first, but the Rock put three goals into the net in the second, by Hendrick, Stephen and Clifford, with assists by Gavin Gammon, Jax Marshall and Gammon. Despite another goal by Minto, the Muskoka Rock won 3-2.In their third match of the tournament, against Bruce Peninsula, the Muskoka Rock atoms continued to play hard. Bruce Peninsula scored two early goals in the first period, and then Alex Crawford responded, assisted by Daynon Cox and Clifford.Although the Rock added one more in the third, unassisted by Hendrick, Bruce Peninsula added three of their own and Muskoka just missed the championship game in the 5-2 loss.

Following the tournament, the atoms made quick work of the competition in two regular-season games last weekend. The Rock defeated Coldwater on home ice in MacTier on Saturday.Martin opened the scoring in the first, assisted by Hendrick and Gavin Eberle, followed by a goal from Hendrick, assisted by Martin. In the second, Martin added his second goal, assisted by defenseman Clifford. And in the third, the Rock added three more, by Crawford, Gammon and Clifford, with assists by Cox, Eberle and Martin, for the 6-0 win. The final score didn’t tell the entire story, as Ethan Grigg and Cameran Werney worked hard to deflect a significant number of Coldwater shots. On Sunday the Rock fired an 11-0 offensive versus South Muskoka on the Gravenhurst ice surface.  Scorers included Hendrick (two), Martin (two) Crawford (two), Stephen (two), Terry, Eberle and Clifford, with assists by Martin (two) Hendrick (two), Eberle, Gammon, Cox, Crawford and Terry.
